Component 1: Case Management and Advisement

Course Description

This segment of the LA PALESTRA method master trainer certification focuses on an in depth understanding of the Case Management Model and the role of “trainer/advisor” as it pertains to client behavior and relationships.

The objective is to provide each participant with a broad exposure to the key characteristics to building client relationships and will explore various treatment modalities used to effect client behavior and interaction including:

The “Case Management Model” as it applies to the training relationship

The major characteristics to a successful client relationship
-
The major barriers to the trainer-client relationship and how to troubleshoot these obstacles
-
Identifying and comprehending treatment modalities
The ability to determine how and when these interventions are most effectively applied will also be addressed.
The course will also examine different approaches, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, an in-depth examination of the role of professional boundaries and client expectations as they relate to the delivery of services in the industry.
The course will consist of both pre and post seminar evaluations, a lecture, and hands on case studies.
This course will be equivalent to 6 CEC’s and hosts approximately 10 attendees.

Requirements
Participants must possess an understanding of client interaction as well as have practical experience in training as this is not an introductory course.

Component 2: Range of Motion

Course Description

This segment of the LA PALESTRA method master trainer certification focuses on an in depth understanding of the concepts, components, and interventions that address the body’s range of motion.

The objective is to provide each participant with a broad exposure to the interventions used to effect range of motions including:

Active Isolated Stretching

Static Stretching
-
Controlled Dynamic Stretching
-
Ballistic Dynamic Stretching
-
Passive Stretching
-
P.N.F. Stretching
The ability to determine how and when these interventions are most effectively applied will also be addressed.
The course will also examine other practices such as yoga, Pilates, tai chi, gyrotonics, and Indian clubs as they relate to R.O.M. as well.
The course will consist of both pre and post seminar evaluations, a lecture, and hands on practical labs.
This course will be equivalent to 6 CEC’s and should host approximately 10 attendees.

Component 3: Movement Theory: The 5 Essential Exercises

Course Description
This segment of the LA PALESTRA Master Trainer Certification focuses on an in depth understanding of LA PALESTRA’s philosophy and practice regarding the hierarchy and prioritization of training movements. This course will examine the bodies 5 basic movements; flexion, extension, abduction, adduction and rotation as they relate to gross motor patterns.
This course will contain both Lecture and Practical and will address:

LA PALESTRA standards, practices and methodology as they relate to the concept of “Core Curriculum of 5 Essential Movements”

How to Instruct, Cue and Spot the 5 Essentials most effectively
-
Standards of professional conduct, communication, and ethics
-
Understand the importance of data and how proper interpretation relates to efficiency of intervention
-
How to most effectively modify movement complexity
-
Movement complexity as it relates to volume, intensity and frequency
-
The Cardiovascular, Neuromuscular and Psychological demands as they relate to the 5 Essential Movements
Requirements
Participants must be experienced practitioners in the health and fitness field, as well as have practical experience with these concepts and practices.
Course Objective
To provide each participant with an understanding of the concept of synergistic training of the neuromuscular system through 5 essential exercises which LA PALESTRA uses as a foundation of all training programs.

Component 4: Evaluation, Assessment, Review

Course Description
This LA PALESTRA Master Trainer Certification course examines three independent but inextricably linked elements of the LA PALESTRA Methodology: Evaluation, Assessment, and Review. Special attention is paid to both the details of practical logistics as well as the rationale upon which these processes are constricted and implemented.

Content specifically addressed includes:

The specific components which should optimally comprise an evaluation

The relevance and role of data as it relates to the success of a given intervention
-
Definition of Assessment and the examination of its relationship to the evaluative process
-
Define and understand the role and importance of “Review” as it relates to Assessment and Evaluation as well as La Palestra’s overall methodology
Requirements
Participants should have had the practical experience performing screening and performance conditions.
Course Objective
To provide the participant with the skills necessary to identify the components of each of the 3 processes: Evaluation, Assessment, and Review, as well as provide a clear understanding of their value when used in conjunction with one another. Participants should also possess a clear understanding of the importance of each process and understand how to perform each appropriately and effectively.

Component 5: Programming and Prescription

Course Description
The Programming and Prescription topic of the LA PALESTRA Master Trainer Certification specifically addresses the definitions, concepts, and elements of both programming and prescription. Each topic is first addressed independently, which then leads to an in depth examination of the relationship between the two and their interdependence.
This course will contain both Lecture and Practical and will address:

Specifically how and why LA PALESTRA differentiates between “Programming” and “Prescription”

The relevance of data collection as it applies to both
-
Categorical elements that must comprise an effective program
-
How to successfully translate program elements into and exercise prescription
-
Both the components and variables of exercise prescription and how these are prioritized to maximize the possibility of the intervention
Requirements
These elements are discussed in the context of LA PALESTRA’s broader Methodology and participants are required to have had practical experience in both program writing and application.
Course Objective
The objective of this segment is to provide the participant with a clear and comprehensive understanding of how to construct an overall program that can address both systemic function and performance. Upon completion participants should be able to easily translate data into a cohesive relevant and effective prescription.
